A Haiku Bouquet

The grass at twilight
Shimmers as we take our walk~
Stalks yield under foot.

Fearless boys we run
Whooping as we leave the path
Chasing our shadows.

Crouching low we hide
Seed heads tickling our noses
First to sneeze loses.

Through the grass he walks
Scattering starlight’s shadow~
His absence…

A haiku Bouquet

Taken by the author while strolling around Copenhagen, contemplating life, and wondering where his hotel…

Crashing electric
Over waves of neon blue~
Days torn asunder.

On foot matching stride
Shadows slide and lengthen
Night falls unnoticed.

In time’s heavy tread
Ripples break the puddle’s edge~
Life’s tide ebbs and flows.

I feel your hand slip
And coldness grips my tired heart~
Your warmth lingers yet.

A Haiku Bouquet

Shingle rolls in waves
Lapping at the water’s edge
Eroding at my dreams.

Long-legged herons stalk
In shallows where children play~
Minnows splash and shriek.

Pinned by chosen rocks
Towels cushion bronzing bodies~
Knuckles for a bed.

Wide flat stones worn smooth
Relentless rivers roving~
Wet feet in the…

A Haiku Bouquet

The sun rose today
Gifting life another dawn~
I drink tea and watch.

Slanting rays of light
Strike the sudden drops of rain
Halting their descent.

The canopy sings
With the pitter patter fall~
Babies know to laugh.

Puddles line the path
A child’s laughter shakes the leaves
Splash, splash, splash, giggle…

Gently dipping branch
Leaves caressing water’s lips
Breath upon the brow

Long feathers tip up
And the beak descends to drink
Nodding to itself.

Zephyrs dance a jig
In failing summer light
Skipping on the air

Boatmen turn circles
Rippling waves that never still
Lilies lift in turn…

A Haiku Bouquet

Misty morning on the Ouse, taken by the author.

Mist dampens the path
Muffling the soft tread of hooves~
Dew in cloven pools.

Verdant leaves linger
Unwilling to let go
Time for them to fall.

Dead hands float palm up
Crinkled fingers catch the breeze~
Life’s cup flows over.

Days of slow decay
Paced with lengthening shadows~
Lamplight…

A Haiku Bouquet

Dew drops fall with grace
From cupped leaves brimming over
My teapot awaits.

Morning songs unfold
All sung by unseen singers
Join your voice to theirs.

Squirrel leaps the gap
Soaring through the dazzling light
Letting go with ease.

I spend my morning
Counting all the leaves I see
Time…
