The baby stared up at him from under the plastic hood, rivulets of rain running down the side. The child cocooned within its protective shell, gliding through sodden streets, a force field parting the crowds.
He stepped out of the way mumbling an apology, eyes downcast, fixed on the cracks in the pavement, his mind nine miles away, lingering in the corridor where a part of him would always be. Sterile, bleach filled air and animal cries…
