Starlight’s Shadow

A Haiku Bouquet

The grass at twilight
Shimmers as we take our walk~
Stalks yield under foot.

Fearless boys we run
Whooping as we leave the path
Chasing our shadows.

Crouching low we hide
Seed heads tickling our noses
First to sneeze loses.

Through the grass he walks
Scattering starlight’s shadow~
His absence lingers.

The sky held more light
In children’s eyes long closed~
Our sun has grown dim.

Always for the child
He strode across the heavens~
We launched our attack.
