Lingering in star-lit folds
Stitched tight against the cold
Of hours long ignored
Abandoned to the night.

Foxes cry on frosted lawns
Willing actors in primal dreams
Forlorn figures left to hunger
Venting in their screams.

Cave bound Sun
Imprisoned by her shame
Weeps upon a world cocooned
Spun with silver thread.

Heads turn on crinkled pillows
Halos of golden hair
Engulfing snowy fields
Billowing in the air.

Owl’s far-sight vision warns
Approaching fiery dawn
Soon all will be aflame,

Sun slips its chain.
